Now that the Olympics are over (Damn judging discrepancies), primetime television has returned. Not that I really watch anything other than Simpsons (On three times a day) and Seinfeld (On two times a day) anyway.
Scrubs returned tonight, with Heather Graham now in as what I assume to be a long-term character, probably something like what Tara Reid did. She was surprisingly a lot better than I had expected, not the big ditz I had thought she would be, and had some funny lines of her own, especially the Chicken Sandwich bit.
I kept flipping back and forth from Scrubs and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (I think I need Tivo. But just for two shows? Nah.). I find myself oddly drawn to EM:HE just because of the whole home remodeling aspect, despite the fact that I absolutely loathe the crew (Except for the one straight guy. You figure it out.) and the whole Oprah “Making lives better and doing it for what it counts” stuff they throw in. This show fills my void since KCET stopped showing This Old House for who knows why.
Don’t get me wrong though, it is pretty sweet how they totally remodel (Rebuild is more like it) a house in seven days and really make a family’s lives a whole lot better. Least they’re doing something about it and actively showing the results to the public. Can’t argue with something like that, even if they do have to layer on the sappiness factor. I’m just saying I watch it mainly for the do-it-yourself parts.
The new Apple iMacs have been released. They’re sporting the new G5 processors and all models are widescreen. I think I liked the look of the older ones better, but these aren’t bad.
Victoria’s Secret has launched a Mickey Mouse Collection of sexy sleepwear. Hi-ho.
I’d better get around to registering to vote this time. Not like my vote’s gonna count for anything in this jacked up system we have (Even the New York Times doesn’t like the electoral college), but might as well exercise one of my last few remaining rights in this country.
valloq: ooh, I get business cards
valloq: what should I put for job title
evanl13: ha ha, awesome
evanl13: uh…..web scientist level 9
valloq: LOL
Ooh, I almost forgot. A while back, Ghiradelli was giving out those coupons for a free sundae. I just got an e-mail from them the other day in accordance with my upcoming birthday for a “Buy one sundae, get one free” coupon. Free stuff rules. Okay, well not free…50% off stuff rules.
Not a whole lot happening this Monday morning. I’ve been having these surreal dreams again, the ones where I believe I’m really in them, and then when I wake up I’m so relieved to know that it hasn’t really happened. They leave me fazed for the whole day though.
Hero topped the box office this weekend. Really didn’t see that one coming at all, I figured it was going to come in only second or third. I guess more people than I thought are willing to see arty Asian films with subtitles. Yay for the constantly surprising public.
A Very Long Engagement looks good.
Logitech MX1000. I need a new mouse.
Our resident Spaniard is now in New York (D’oh, forgot to make another one of my “say farewell” posts…post any well-wishes to him here), and finally got to talk to him this morning to see how things were going for him in the Big Apple.
calkidd32 (10:15:56 AM): dude i was part of that peace rally
valloq (10:16:01 AM): are you kidding?
calkidd32 (10:16:06 AM): i was trying to find the place where I get my ID card
calkidd32 (10:16:17 AM): and the guy was like “you’ll have to go down Broadway”
calkidd32 (10:16:46 AM): and when i hit Broadway, some lady saw me and she was like “glad u could make it” and she handed me a sign that said “Bush lies. Who dies?”
calkidd32 (10:16:47 AM): LOL
calkidd32 (10:17:10 AM): so i had to walk all the way down Broadway ’til i hit the street i was looking for
It’s begun. Protestors are converging on the site of the Republican National Convention, and several arrests have been made. So far it seems most planned protests have gone off well. First, thousands set out on a mass bike ride, then there’s a huge march across the Brooklyn Bridge, and now the creator of Bikes Against Bush is arrested for vandalism, when even the police sargeant agreed with him that the non-permanent chalk spray he’s using is perfectly fine. Torrent link to a video of his arrest.
First Amendment? Check.
This is even better though. 81 year-old Bea Arthur of Golden Girls fame is caught with a pocketknife in her purse that she forgot to take out. She then starts screaming, “It was the terrorists!” in a completely joking manner. This woman rules.
I’m not very good with arguments, and as you know, people who suck at arguing just cuss their way out of situations they don’t know how to get out of. Go ahead. Vote for Bush. Fuckers.
Oh man. I can’t stop watching this. It’s not even the fall really, it’s how he gets up and keeps trying. I seriously had some tears coming out after I saw this, it’s just too funny.
A couple of humorous links to tide the locals over:
How to score at the Republican convention.
Let her know you’re going to rock her boat, but it won’t be swift.
E-mail addresses it would be really annoying to give out over the phone. McSweeney’s is kind of hit or miss to me. Sometimes even I don’t understand their satire, or their lists are only kind of a “heh” instead of a “LOL” like this e-mail list did.
For those people who don’t know, Lucasfilm announced a little while back that the original Star Wars Trilogy would finally be coming to DVD. Not the originals really, but the Special Editions that came out in theaters several years ago. But what’s even more surprising is that George Lucas has gone back and changed even more stuff!
It’s nothing major this time, which is good, but more like little things. Fixing lightsabers. Making hallways look longer. Sharpening the image. Most of these things are actually pretty cool and don’t change that much, nothing that irks me as much as the changes that were made in the Special Editions. But still. Friggin’ George Lucas, that revisionist bastard.
So I come across this link to a forum thread, where supposedly someone found a digital camera while hiking in the woods. He downloaded the pics that were in the cam and posted them up for people to see, and there’s reflections and freaky silhouettes that people start pointing out.
I hate scary shit. Scares the crap out of me. Saw What Lies Beneath a while back and was paranoid everytime I took a shower for at least a week afterwards. So naturally I kept reading the thread as people kept finding more stuff. And then they find a corrupted image from the camera’s memory and attempt to recover what’s on it. And then the person who posted the pics says he’s going back with a bunch of his friends and BB guns. This was good stuff.
Then a few pages later on people link back to the original thread where this is from in another forum, and it’s a hoax. They were laughing their asses off. Really good stuff though.
I’m sure everyone’s too lazy to go through the whole thread, but basically around page 14 or so is when people start calling it a hoax. And finally on page 24 is when they link back to the original thread where it first started. And here’s the excellent photoshopping of the “corrupted image”. Fake, sure, but entertained me for a good hour or so.
I get bored and entertain myself by watching other people answer my stupid questions.
if you could be a letter of the alphabet, which one would you be and why?

Bluemooniac: I don’t know…
Bluemooniac: what kind of question is this?
valloq: a dumb one
Bluemooniac: hahaha
I amaze myself with my own wit sometimes. She was referring to the Polyphonic Spree album, and Aileen is her roommate.
Lildreamer422: bleh

valloq: ooh, trade aileen for a hotter chick that digs nerds that are about 5′ 6″ and likes reading and movies
I’ve started visiting kottke.org as part of my morning sites to visit session. I’ve come across some great links there, among them:
Programmer fonts. Anyone who writes a lot of code (HTML or real code) might have noticed that the default fonts used in Windows are a pain in the ass to code with. Courier New and System are just plain ugly if you ask me. The first few links on that page are really handy, and I’ve been using Sheldon myself for my programming purposes. Works like a charm.
Tricks of the Trade. I like this one:
Graphic Designer
If you have a client who is unable to approve a proposed design without putting her stamp on it, just put an obvious error in the proposal: a logo that’s too large, a font that’s too small, or a few judiciously seeded typos. The client requests the change and feels she’s done her part, and your design, which was perfect all along, sails through to approval.
Bush is calling for a halt to the Swift Boat ads attacking Kerry. Yeah bitch, I wonder why? Denying all connections to the ads my ass, more like the press got wind of it so now they’re trying to shut it down.
I love politics. It’s a lot more fun when it involves Bush and just bashing on people who would actually vote for this fool.
I went to the Improv in Irvine on Friday to see the comic Mitch Hedberg. His comic stylings are exactly those you would expect from someone completely stoned out of his mind, and while very funny, I don’t think I found him quite as funny as everyone else did. The comic that went up right before him, Ryan Keegan (sp?) had some good material though.
I’ve been finding out about Disney’s “other side” from a spat of sites detailing the things we never get to see over at the Magic Kingdom, and today I run across this article about the fall of Walt Disney Imagineering from SaveDisney.com, a site run by Disney board members and Roy Disney himself (When one of the Disneys is against the way Disney is being run today, you know something’s wrong). It’s really sad to see bureaucracies and greed overtake a company once known for making dreams come true. I was just thinking to myself last night as I caught the tail end of The Road To El Dorado that it was some pretty sweet hand-drawn animation, but shame that Disney’s decided to shut it down and go all computer-generated.
New York Times image detailing the controversy behind the “Swift Boat Veterans For Truth” ad campaign. Notice how Bush’s supporters backed the campaign and how the veterans in the ad contradicted what they had said about Kerry years earlier. Great stuff.
Follow-up to my post, Jamie’s provided me with a quicktime version of the trailer for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I don’t even know why I’m posting it since I’m sure apple will have it soon enough, but it is nice to see it in nice big high-res glory.
I’ve been reading about this one photo-sharing site for a while now, Flickr, and been itching to give it a try. Being too lazy to setup my own photoblog again and having spent a good amount of time since moving home to try to make my room “mine” again, I finally got the wall right next to where I sit to a level I’m happy with. Took photos and setup account on Flickr, and off we go.
Here’s a link to my page on there. Checkout the nifty features like being able to comment and adding notes to the photos. I think there’s tons of other cool stuff on there too that I haven’t even begun to play with yet.
