Well I’ve been obsessing over the iPod nano all day, I might as well write something about it along with all the other Apple news today.
iPod nano
The nano is sick. I got wind of an update of the iPod Mini last week from Think Secret, so I was anticipating something to come out of the Apple press event today. The nano goes way beyond what I imagined. It’s so friggin’ thin and looks deliciously yummy now that it resembles the iPods more, dropping the aluminum body of the mini. And it comes in black!
I’m a bit disappointed with the storage space. Since the nano has replaced the Mini in the iPod lineup, I was hoping it would remain 4GB and 6GB, but instead it’s a 2GB and a 4GB model. Still good though, and 2GB of flash memory is hard to come by for less than $200, so Apple isn’t exactly ripping us off, until you consider for another $100 you can get ten times the storage.

The lanyard accessory design is pretty neat. Looking at the way it hangs down from the neck, you can understand why Apple placed the headphone jack at the bottom of the iPod nano. Not something I’ll be getting, but a clever design.
According to the people at the Apple Store, they won’t be getting the nano for a couple of days, probably Friday at the earliest. Seems like almost everyone I know is eager to drop their current model and grab the nano. That’s just how yummy it is.
Walt Mossberg has a review of the nano already, and he loves it. And it actually plays for the claimed 14 hours!
Motorola ROKR
I won’t even bother talking about the Motorola ROKR with iTunes. It’s a cell phone. With iTunes. Whoop-dee-doo.
iTunes 5.0
iTunes got a new “streamlined” look which I’m really liking. It’s like they removed the borders around the program so I get more space now. The playlists can be organized into folders finally, which is helping me a lot since I go playlist happy with my music, and there’s a new search feature that seems like it’d be handy. Some other stuff got added too like a smart shuffle and parental controls which I haven’t used too much yet. Nothing totally revolutionary but I’m growing to like the new look.
