2005 Year-End: Movies

Holy crap is this late. In light of tonight’s Academy Awards though, I figured now was as good a time as any.

My List

My favorite films from 2005 in, in no particular order:

The Oscar

Now, about best movie — Crash was way overrated, and as best said by Moriarty at Ain’t It Cool News:

I just can’t believe that this transparently manipulative film has stirred up such intense passions in anyone.

It’s a good film, and I enjoyed it when I saw it, but something just didn’t feel right to me, and the word “manipulative” works perfectly to describe the film. It may be the fact that the movie and its many messages are spelled out to the viewer instead of letting us interpret them ourselves.

My Pick

Favorite Movies of 2005

Of the five I listed, all but Crash I would love to own on DVD, and could probably watch them over and over again (Maybe not so with Munich, but would still love to own a copy). The best I can do here is narrow it down to three — Batman Begins, Serenity, and Munich. That’s the best you’re getting from me.
