Batman’s New Suit. I don’t think I’m liking this. They promised more cloth.

Spider-Man 3 Trailer
Friday November 10, 2006
The Spider-Man 3 trailer has hit, and I want it now.
From the trailer, it looks as if they are doing the symbiote storyline justice and dedicating the entire movie to Spider-Man and the suit, and hopefully saving the next movie for Venom. I was worried that they would rush the Sandman plot and then bring out Venom for the second half of the movie, but it looks as if it is not so.
I’m sure people are disappointed that there’s no shots of Venom in the trailer, but they gotta have some surprises.
Spider-Man 3 Trailer Online Thursday!. Will we finally see Venom and the symbiote suit?

Superman Returns was good, but not the greatness I was hoping for. You could say I’m a little disappointed.
X-Men 3: The Last Stand
Saturday May 27, 2006

What follows is my review of X-Men: The Last Stand. It’s chock full of spoilers, so do not read on if you don’t want to be spoiled about the movie.

V for Vendetta
Saturday March 18, 2006

Movies about taking down fascist governments always seem to make me hopeful. Despite the fact that I doubt I’d ever see a revolution in my lifetime, it’s still nice to see it happen on the screen.
I read the V for Vendetta comic book a few months back to prepare myself for the movie, to which I had the same reaction as I did to Alan Moore’s more well-known work, Watchmen, which was one of, “eh.” His stories tend to be more involved than one would expect from works in the “comic book” medium; always being less about right or wrong, and instead, especially in Vendetta, staying morally ambiguous and allowing the reader to decide for themselves. It’s that last part that led me to initially conclude that I didn’t like his stuff, but after a while I started to “get it” and appreciate his stuff a lot more.
And so of course I was worried when Alan Moore disassociated himself from the movie. That’s never a good sign. The movie cut out a lot from the book and changed a lot of events around in the timeline, but overall I felt the message and themes still stayed intact. While the book focused more on anarchy, I didn’t recall ever hearing that word uttered in the movie. It still made for a good movie, and maybe some people will enjoy it for the social commentary and not go see it just cause it’s “from the creators of the Matrix!”
Spider-Man. Could it be the Venom storyline?

So, Can They Hear The Tiger?
Wednesday February 23, 2005
Today I ran across The Complete Calvin & Hobbes Collection online. Most likely not legal, but it’s great while it lasts (hint: save it to your hard drive before it disappears). Calvin & Hobbes is undeniably one of the best comic strips, that luckily ended its run before it started to feel old and unfunny. The fact that Bill Watterson never sold out and went on a crazy merchandising run gives the strip that much more respect.
Something that I glossed over when I first read the strip as a child is the way Watterson handles serious topics in his comic strip. Take for instance the storyline of a dying racoon. Simple, a bit childish, but still very adult in the way it’s handled. That’s some good writing.
Now for random fun. This strip has always made me chuckle. The ones where Calvin’s dad explains to him how things work are always great (sorry no link), and the last strip that ran is sufficiently poignant.
Oh, almost forgot. It looks like they’ll be releasing a hardcover collection of all the strips soon. Hooray.
Update: I’ve found a mirror site and the links have been updated accordingly. Hopefully this one stays up longer.
Adrian Tomine, Bodytag
Friday August 6, 2004
I’m heading up to the Bay Area this weekend, and unfortunately will be missing the opening of Adrian Tomine at GR2 (Giant Robot’s art gallery, just down the street from the Giant Robot store) on Saturday, August 7th. His art is going to be put up at the gallery for a little bit, and the artist will be on hand from 6:30PM - 10PM to sign his latest release, a scrapbook of his uncollected artwork. Anyone who’s interested in the world of literary/underground comics should really check it out, his Optic Nerve series is one of my favorites.
Crazy DHML/Java skills. Found after he released the Duct Tape mod for Doom 3.
