Thread- who?

Tuesday May 23, 2006

Sheltered from Oddica

I first learned of Oddica when I saw the link on Dan Cederholm’s site. At first Oddica looked like all the other (nearly) indistinguishable t-shirt sites on the web such as Threadless and Busted Tees, but Oddica is focused a lot more on the artists than the consumers.

No Way!

Wednesday April 19, 2006

Holy crap! Jorge just told me that he saw my site on CSS Beauty, and sure enough it looks like I’m one of their featured sites. I’m a bit puzzled since I submitted my site almost two months ago, but regardless, welcome to everyone visiting for the first time.

CSS Beauty

It’s a bit humbling though, and kinda funny when I think everyone’s gonna come and see me trying to pick a fight with Shaun Inman and making fun of Jorge’s PDF Portfolio. Talk about getting caught off guard.

Btw, I noticed my site “usurped” vitamin on CSS Beauty’s featured sites list, which has Shaun Inman listed on the Advisory Board. That’s Eric Lim: 2; Shaun Inman: 0. ;-)

Looking for a Front-End Developer

As an addendum, and something I’ve been meaning to talk about anyway, I served as Juxt Interactive’s HTML/CSS dude for a year, and just recently left to join Go Farm in Pasadena. As such, Juxt is looking for someone to fill my spot as a Front-End Developer. If anyone’s interested (particularly visitors from CSS Beauty), they’re looking to hire.

Nothing in Particular

He’s Touring with Chicago!

Quite possibly the greatest “thank you” I’ve ever received, after sending Justin the classic song “Power of Love” by Huey Lewis and the News, followed up shortly after by his not-as-big hit, “Do You Believe in Love?”

My wife says to thank you for filling the house with more cheesy music.

Firefox Javascript Errors Indicator

I’ve spent so much time writing javascript lately that I have this urge to click the javascript errors button in Firefox any time I see it light up while browsing the web.

Go Design some Snowboards!

Completely random plug for Jorge Fino, PDF Designer. Well, not that random; I just find it amusing that his portfolio consists of nothing but a PDF, and I thought it’d be totally awesome if he advertised himself as the first and only PDF Designer.

Wow, I just visited Jorge Fino’s portfolio and realized he updated it. Well, that blows. So much for me heckling him about his PDF Portfolio. I’m still gonna try my best with keywords to make sure he comes up for Jorge Fino PDF Designer

Update again: He still has his old PDF Portfolio up! Score one from the Fino, PDF Master!

Don’t Worry, I’m Still Bored

Sunday February 12, 2006

Ta-Da!

Introductions Are In Order…

It finally set upon me that calling the site “Boredom” and having the web address be valloq.com wasn’t making a whole lot of sense. At first I was gonna grab www.riclim.com and make my site into e.riclim.com, but being able to have the entire url spell out the site name is so much cooler.

You’d be amazed at how many .us domains are taken — www.icio.us (by del.icio.us, of course), www.aculo.us (by script.aculo.us), and practically all the good ones are gone. I lucked upon www.umptuo.us when I tried searching for s.umptuo.us and almost settled for that, but pres.umptuo.us is such a sweeter name.

So here we are, a brand new name, brand new address, but the same ol’ content.

I Can Use Photoshop

I’m hoping everyone finds this new design a lot more pleasing. The old boredom look was just feeling too spaced out and unorganized. Working at a design firm for the past year has really helped me in understanding the basics behind design. Everything is pretty close to final now from what you’re seeing, although I imagine I’ll tweak it here and there, and if anyone sees something that’s off, please let me know.

Yes, They’re Coming Back

I know, everyone wants the babes back. They’ll be back soon. When? I don’t know…the launch of pres.umptuo.us took me about a month, so I’d expect the same amount of time for the babes to be back. And yes, they’ll have a new name as well.

Programming Fonts, Tricks of the Trade

Wednesday August 25, 2004

I’ve started visiting kottke.org as part of my morning sites to visit session. I’ve come across some great links there, among them:

Programmer fonts. Anyone who writes a lot of code (HTML or real code) might have noticed that the default fonts used in Windows are a pain in the ass to code with. Courier New and System are just plain ugly if you ask me. The first few links on that page are really handy, and I’ve been using Sheldon myself for my programming purposes. Works like a charm.

Tricks of the Trade. I like this one:

Graphic Designer

If you have a client who is unable to approve a proposed design without putting her stamp on it, just put an obvious error in the proposal: a logo that’s too large, a font that’s too small, or a few judiciously seeded typos. The client requests the change and feels she’s done her part, and your design, which was perfect all along, sails through to approval.
