What I Learned In Vegas This Weekend
Sunday October 15, 2006
- Do not forget your wallet, or else you will never hear the end of it for the remainder of the trip.
- Kicking your friends’ asses at Tetris DS is extremely satisfying.
- It’s even more satisfying if done while drunk and taking a dump in the bathroom.
- You will only win at roulette if you use an extremely dumb method to choose the winning color.
- I have aged a lot in a span of three months. I went from being carded at every casino to being carded only once.
- I do not like Jägermeister
Watch these movies, then we can talk (kottke.org). Just froma a quick glance, I think I’ve barely seen 20 of ‘em.

2005 Year-End: Movies
Sunday March 5, 2006
Holy crap is this late. In light of tonight’s Academy Awards though, I figured now was as good a time as any.
My List
My favorite films from 2005 in, in no particular order:
Narnia, King Kong, Munich
Sunday January 15, 2006
A trio of movie reviews before I get into my favorites of 2005.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

I read the book back in Junior High and remembered liking it. Simple, easy-to-read, straightforward. It wasn’t until later that one of my friends mentioned the parallels with the story of Christ, and I just sort of went, “Hmm. That’s interesting.
2005 Year-End: Music
Tuesday January 3, 2006
Time to do some year-end lists. I’m gonna start off with music this time, and by using the magic of iTunes it pretty much makes these lists for me. These lists are for music I found in the year 2005, not music that was released in 2005.
Update: Favorite song chosen below. Right, these are all just stats gathered by a computer program, so scroll down to see my pick for favorite song of the year.
Most Played Songs
Pretty self-explanatory. Unfortunately it tends to favor songs I found earlier in the year.

-
Death Cab for Cutie - Brothers on a Hotel Bed (88 plays)
My favorite track on my first listen through their album Plans, although I think What Sarah Said is just as good, if not a better track. -
Howie Day - Collide (63 plays)
Very radio-friendly and Top 40, but can’t deny it’s a great song. -
Elefant - Tonight Let’s Dance (61 plays)
Love the beat on this track. -
Stereophonics - Dakota (55 plays)
Probably a lot higher than it should be, but it did come out early in the year, helping it get more plays. -
Jem - Finally Woken (54 plays)
I always bob my head when I hear this song.

Honorable Mention: Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone; New Order - Age of Consent; Badly Drawn Boy - The Shining; Ben Folds - In Between Days; French Kicks - The Trial of the Century; DeVotchKa - How It Ends; Rilo Kiley - Patiently; The Human League - Human.
